They strongly believe that in today’s world, the importance of sleep is often neglected, and it is extremely essential to maintain a good sleep schedule for physical and mental health benefits. Progressing further, they plan to highlight the physical and mental health effects of sleep deprivation and aim to bring about change in the patterns of sleep of various individuals, for their physical and emotional wellbeing. Through platforms like Youtube, Tiktok and Instagram, Project Sleep Wizard has been successful in spreading the word as well as raising awareness on this important issue and has been successful in having a large reach!
Decoding the Signals on the other hand, is a student-led initiative that aims to spread the importance of body language for the public’s safety in their daily lives. They believe that the most important part of communication is hearing what isn't said and through the blogs on their website and Instagram page, hope to spread awareness on the importance of understanding one's body language.
In collaboration, this blog dives into the important “signals” indicating whether someone is sleep deprived.
The body language of a person who is sleep deprived is fairly noticeable, and is easy to catch! For example, sleep deprivation can be observed when irritability and drastic mood swings take place within an individual, which takes a toll on their mental health. Sleep and emotional health are deeply interconnected, and thus if an individual is sleep deprived, they would be more vulnerable to crankiness and moodiness. Furthermore, if a person is visibly fatigued or lethargic, and is taking many frequent naps throughout the day, it would be safe to say that they are sleep deprived. Feeling exhausted in the middle of the day is an important sign, indicating that an individual isn’t getting the appropriate amount of sleep. Sleep deprivation can also affect individuals’ abilities to reason, focus and be logical. If an individual’s productivity and performance is slipping, that could be a vital indicator of lack of sleep. Additionally, an individual can be seen as sleep deprived when they have a higher tendency to eat snacks frequently and are often hungry.
These trivial tell-tale signs could help rightly identify a person who isn’t sleeping properly, and could help in rectifying the issue.
